"Hey, you've reached Naegi Makoto. I'm sorry, but I can't answer right now. If you leave a message I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can. Please take care!" VOICE | TEXT | VIDEO | ACTION
It's hard to pinpoint when exactly it's no longer a coincidence. I suppose if we continue to see an increase in people from Japan it would be worth looking into at least.
[Leon wastes no time when he wakes up in his own bed after that--everything. He's not even entirely convinced he's awake yet, but he flies out of his room anyway, down the hall to the rooms he knows the occupants of. That's you, friend.
Maybe you've been awake for a while yourself, or maybe you aren't awake at all yet: either way, there's a loud, desperate rapping on your door.]
I will be going with a group back into the jungle tomorrow morning. I thought you may want to know in the case that I get injured. While I may come back without any injuries, the probability is still high.
[ Nope, he's awake. After all, that was - that was a thing. Naegi's not entirely put together yet, having decided cleaning up is a thing that should happen, before running into the halls. This mostly means just changing clothes, though...his other ones are a little Wrecked from that adventure.
He'd been intending to seek out the others soon after, but looks like he was beat to the punch, as he pulls open his door after Kuwata starts pounding on it. ]
Who - ? Kuwata-kun! [ Thank god. There's instant relief on Naegi's face. ] You're okay, too!
[ is it okay if he hugs you it's pretty easy to shove him away if not... ]
[Leon, on the other hand, ran into the hallway before even bothering to think about how gross he is right now—for once in his life. And it's pretty gross. He's shirtless, and his body is streaked with soot; he's unshowered and unshaven and shoeless and in a different state of mind he'd hate himself for showing his face like this. But that time isn't right now.
He'd been going to hug Naegi immediately anyway, so now this is just a mutual hug. Leon squeezes him tight, letting out a hoarse whoop of victory.]
Yeah! Yeah, yeah, I'm alive! You're alive! Oh my god, I thought—ha ha ha! We're totally back! We're outta Hell!
[ At least Naegi completely doesn't care about soot getting on him. ...Not that he's much better, since he hasn't bothered to shower, just...put on clothes that exist more than his had ended up doing. SO MANY HOLES. SO MUCH SADNESS. ]
Hell?! Where were you, even...? Togami-kun and Hinata-kun were in the same place as me, but we couldn't find any of the rest of you no matter how long we looked!
[ He's just going to casually check Leon over for injuries. He looks - well, messy, but otherwise okay? ...Naegi doesn't even have to shave yet. This is probably sad, since he's definitely like twenty if you count cerealia as well... ]
Ahhh, really?! I didn't have any o' you guys with me . . . Trucy's dad said we all got split up by those shitty spirits or whatever—but forget that! They got us outta there!
[There's so much to address and say and think about and Leon doesn't know where to start; he's still high on not being dead. Part of him doesn't even want to think about any of it at all. He's got no idea where to direct his energy right now, just letting Naegi look him over and then reaching out to pat at his shoulder, as if testing to see if he's going to break in half or something if he's jostled.]
That fire dog thing took my group down into a friggin' volcano! Without food or anything . . . can you believe it? We were about to die down there! Where'd you guys go?
...A volcano?! Wait, more importantly - have you eaten anything recently?! [ He's just. Going to grab Leon's arm and start to tow him inside... ] I'll make you something, so sit down...
[ No food? Honestly. Not like Earth was a walk in the park, but at least it was still just the jungle, so they could forage. ]
For us, it was a village in the jungle. There was quick sand and other things around, but at least we could find food.
Uh, no, 's been a while . . . like I said, I was pretty sure we were gonna keel over . . .
[It hadn't just been the food, though: the water, the heat, the choking air, all of that had had Leon pretty close to the brink by the end there. He takes a deep breath, conscious for the first time of how good it feels to finally be able to do so, and offers Naegi a smile. Ah, man. Being reminded of his own state is making it catch up to him . . . ]
You can cook? Dude, I'll owe you! I'll pay you back somehow, however I can! Shit, I'm such a mess right now, I've really gotta shower. Maybe I oughta go do that first?
Not anything really fancy, but if it's ordinary stuff, yeah. I helped out at home sometimes, and I've been cooking even more since we got here...
[ Since he doesn't like to eat out all the time, mostly. ]
If you want to take a shower while I put something together, that'd work out, right? As long as you're sure you're not going to keel over doing that...the most important thing is your health, Kuwata-kun!
[ Because Naegi is a wimp and can't drag you out of your shower if you keel over in there, so. ]
Also, of course you don't have to pay me back. Friends worry about one another like this, right...? So, let me worry a little.
Heh . . . yeah, I guess you got a point. So next time I'll worry about you, got it?
[Same thing, really.
He's a little surprised by how worried Naegi was about him, how he's spoiling him with food right now and fretting over his health—but maybe that's uncharitable. Naegi's that kind of guy. Even if things are a little complicated-feeling, even back then, he'd—
Well, he's a good friend, and Leon trusts in that. Even if their status feels a little bit It's Complicated sometimes on Leon's half, just like it does with Kirigiri, Togami, and Fujisaki.]
Aaanyway, I swear I'm not gonna keel over, got it? I'm gonna go shower so I don't totally putrify your place just standin' here!
[That's not how the word putrefy works or what it means but he doesn't know that. Leon reaches out one more time to ruffle at Naegi's hair firmly, in thanks.]
[ Naegi will find Kyouko leaning up against the building, looking a little worse for wear. Her legs are scratched up, and it looks like one of her knees is a little swollen. The way she's favoring one of her legs also hints at a twisted ankle too. ]
[ oh my god Kyouko do you want to give him a heart attack..."for the most part" isn't yes, so of course he speeds himself up without replying back. At least she's alive - and why the hell is that a thing they can think now, like not dying is a mark of being okay? - but should she really be on her feet...?
Rather, going upstairs like this might be hard on her, right? ]
Kirigiri-san! You're hurt - [ He jogs up to a stop beside her, and impulsively pulls her into a hug. He may or may not have been worried the entire expedition. ] We should see to your legs...do you need help getting upstairs?
[ The hug takes her by surprise (much more than she'd ever like to admit), and it takes her a moment to answer. ]
...Yes. [ She hates to admit it, but out of all people she'd rather have Naegi see her in a moment of weakness like this. ] I do believe I could manage it, but I don't want to make my injuries worse.
I'm glad you called me, then. [ Especially because he's well aware there was a time she wouldn't have called any of them. He...he probably can't princess carry her up there because he's a damn noodle, but at the very least: ]
In that case...I'll be your crutch for the time being, Kirigiri-san, so let's get you upstairs. [ Even a noodle can be a human crutch!! ]
Of course. You know I'll always help you if I can. [ He'd say "no questions asked", but he usually has questions...
...still, he never requires her to actually answer them. ]
What happened? [ They may as well start talking about it as they get her upstairs. Naegi will match himself to Kirigiri's pace, putting the arm closest to her around her waist to help steady her. ]
[ She really does appreciate it, even though she rarely says so. Kyouko takes it slow, trying to make the trip up several flights of stairs as easy as possible for the both of them. ]
Everything had gone rather smoothly for most of the trip, but we came across a monster that outmatched us... [ And two members of the group died while others were severely injured. It wasn't pretty.
She pauses. ] Compared to the others, I was lucky.
